My training in interior design led me to a career in historic preservation. Working primarily with the legacy of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, I studied the underlying principles of organic architecture and learned that nature really is the best teacher. The colors, patterns, rhythms and textures from the earth are more perfect than anything man made.
Continuing my love for the integrity and beauty of natural materials, I have turned to designing jewelry in my studios in the Driftless Area of Wisconsin and the Hill Country of Texas. Now, instead of working with old buildings, I am working with old rocks.
I have been a lifelong collector of beads and am rarely seen without a necklace. Drawn to beads that are as close to their natural state as possible, I also love those that are hand formed, ethnic and ancient, always searching for the human element.
Bead making was one of man’s first expressions of creativity and examples were found in the earliest archeological excavations. For centuries beads have had meaning and value whether it was spiritual, monetary or simply as embellishment. Even today, a necklace of unique beads makes a statement and serves as a valuable “face frame”.
My necklaces are one-of a kind and intended to be timeless, wearable art, not dependent on the current trends. It’s all about the beads!
